Former National Hockey League player and ex-Ohio State Buckeyes men’s ice hockey standout Ryan Kesler is facing criminal charges tied to an alleged incident involving a 16-year-old, according to prosecutors and court records.

Kesler, 41, has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct stemming from an alleged incident that occurred on January 1 in Orchard Lake, Michigan.

Authorities allege the case involves sexual contact with a minor, with court documents indicating the conduct may have involved force, coercion, or circumstances where the victim was unable to consent.

Not Guilty Plea and Court Proceedings

Kesler appeared in court in Bloomfield Hills, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was released after posting a $50,000 bond and has been ordered to remain in Michigan unless granted permission to travel.

His attorney has denied the allegations, stating Kesler is “completely innocent” and intends to fight the charges in court.

The case is ongoing, with future court hearings expected as prosecutors continue to present evidence.

Background on Kesler’s Career

Kesler is a former NHL center who played 15 seasons in the league, most notably with the Vancouver Canucks and the Anaheim Ducks. He was known as a top defensive forward and won the Selke Trophy in 2011.

Before turning professional, Kesler played college hockey at Ohio State University, where he developed into a standout prospect before being drafted into the NHL.

Fallout and Ongoing Developments

Following the charges, Kesler was reportedly suspended from his role as a youth hockey coach by local hockey organizations while the legal process unfolds.

The case has drawn widespread attention across the hockey community, with many awaiting further developments as it proceeds through the court system.
