Kansas State basketball player Amaad Wainright made his first court appearance in Johnson County Thursday on charges related to a road-rage shooting in January in Overland Park.
Wainright, who has been suspended from the basketball team as a result of the situation, is accused of aiding another man who allegedly fired a gun at another vehicle on Interstate 435.
That other man, Trevon Barr, 23, of Kansas City, is charged in Johnson County District Court with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm into a motor vehicle and criminal damage to property.
Barr made an initial court appearance Wednesday and remains in jail on a bond of $100,000.
Wainright, 22, who is from the Kansas City area, is charged with obstructing law enforcement and fleeing or attempting to flee from police.
He was booked into the Johnson County Jail Wednesday night.
He made his court appearance Thursday afternoon and was released from jail after posting bond.
Wainright’s next court hearing is scheduled for April 12.
During the incident on Jan. 17, another motorist’s vehicle was struck by gunfire, but no one was injured.
